This new view of the mill perfectly highlights how its different levels were organized, each playing a specific role in the daily operation of the castle.

On the ground floor, the oven, the heart of bread production, is clearly visible, a staple food for the fortress's inhabitants. Just above it is a floor dedicated to the flour and grain granary, where essential reserves were stored to ensure the castle's self-sufficiency, even during sieges or harsh winters. Finally, at the top stands the mill itself, with its machinery that transformed grain into flour.

This ingenious layering demonstrates the rationality and efficiency of the Haut-Kœnigsbourg castle's layout. Each level corresponded to a precise stage in the food chain, optimizing movement, storage, and production. Behind this architecture, one can discern the desire to make the castle self-sufficient, functional, and resilient, perfectly adapted to life at altitude and the challenges of the Middle Ages.
