There are moments when the forest suddenly seems to paint for itself, as if every blade of moss, every glint of light, every delicate shape were part of a living work. That day, at the gnarled base of an old oak tree, my gaze stopped dead in its tracks. Proudly emerging from a dense carpet of bright green moss, a small, delicately shaped mushroom seemed to be poised, like a dancer at the precise moment of balance.

Its cap, bursting with a slightly mauve pink, its inclined stance, and the moist softness of its cap, reminded me of a Hooded Hygrophorus (Porpolomopsis calyptriformis), a rare and discreet species sometimes found in old meadows or open woods. It's a fragile, graceful mushroom, rarely encountered—and all the more precious when it appears.

Some consider it edible, others abstain, out of caution or respect.

When in doubt, I stick to what the forest offers most: contemplation.

I stayed there for a moment, as if to avoid disrupting the composition of this living tableau—a fragment of nature that only slowness allows us to glimpse.
