I didn't find it on a leaf, nor in the hollow of a branch, but there, on the ground, slowly making its way along the dirt path I was following for this walk.

The caterpillar of the Saturnia pavonia—or Small Peacock Moth—is a miniature marvel. Its dark body, studded with luminous green tubercles, gives it the appearance of a living jewel, both strange and fascinating. It walked unhurriedly, as if seeking a last refuge before metamorphosis. Was this the moment when it was looking for shelter to pupate? Perhaps.

This brief encounter with this creature from another rhythm, another time, reminded me that miracles don't always take place in the air or on flowers.

Sometimes, they move silently beneath our feet, covered in pearls of light.
