As the boat heads towards the mainland and the island slowly disappears behind us, a final scene unfolds before me, like a wink from nature. On one of the many rocks jutting out of the calm sea, a group of motionless cormorants observe the open sea.

Lined up like sentinels, the birds seem to be greeting the visitors' departure. Their dark silhouettes contrast with the golden light of late afternoon, and their heads, slightly turned toward our boat, give the scene an almost theatrical touch.

A moment suspended between sky and sea, this vision gently brings to a close a day full of discoveries and emotions. A silent and majestic farewell from Ponza, as if to better engrave in our memories the brilliance of this timeless island.
