From inside the cave, an almost sacred atmosphere prevails. The gaze is lost in the play of light and shadow sliding across the walls, and we discover that the pool along the entrance gently widens to close in a circular basin, like a sort of harmonious ending, both functional and aesthetic.

This hydraulic device was undoubtedly part of a refined scenographic complex: the omnipresent water captured the reflections of the statues and columns, amplifying the impression of a timeless place. The discreet sound of the water, the openings that reveal the sea, and the monumental volumes of the cave give this space an almost theatrical dimension—reminiscent of the legends of Odysseus it evoked.

It is easy to imagine Tiberius himself, contemplating this basin, in the calm of the end of the day, while the last rays of the sun played with the waves and the shadows of the grotto.
