A close-up of the statue majestically overlooking the entrance to the Imperial Grotto allows us to appreciate every detail. This is Ganymede, the young shepherd from Greek mythology, carried off by Zeus's eagle to become the cupbearer of the gods on Mount Olympus.

Here, Ganymede is depicted at the very moment of his ascension. The young man's slender body is carried toward the heavens, his posture blending grace and abandon, while the eagle, with its wings spread wide, soars with authority. The composition evokes both divine rapture and the passage from one world to another—that of men to that of the gods.

This statue, perched high above, was not placed there by chance. In Roman times, the entrance to the grotto must already have struck visitors with its symbolic power. Ganymede embodies spiritual elevation, eternal youth, but also ideal beauty - all themes dear to the Roman emperors who saw in mythology a mirror of their own greatness.
