Even before crossing the threshold of Haut-Kœnigsbourg, visitors are struck by the sheer scale of its walls. Looking up, the stones seem to soar towards the sky, defying gravity and the gaze. The low-angle shot accentuates this feeling of vertigo: the towers appear to leap out of the frame, as if the castle refuses to fit entirely within it.

The red sandstone, warmed by the winter sun, contrasts with the purity of the azure sky. The very texture of the stone conveys the strength of the place, its weight of history and battles.
