From the heights of the Bidouane Tower, the seascape opens wide, and one can admire the Queen's Bastion, this massive projection jutting out into the sea like a stone ship ready to set sail.

Built in the early 18th century, this bastion played a strategic role in the defense of the corsair city: positioned at the northwest corner of the ramparts, it allowed crossfire with the Bidouane Tower to block any enemy approach from the sea. Its thick, low walls, designed to withstand cannonballs, still bear witness to the military ingenuity of Vauban's engineers.

Its name pays homage to Queen Anne of Austria, mother of Louis XIV, and recalls the monarchy's desire to assert its presence in this city, known for its rebelliousness and jealousy of its privileges.

Today, the Queen's Bastion has become a popular lookout point for walkers, offering breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding islets. Below, the waves lap at the granite foothills, in an eternal undertow that seems to punctuate the very history of Saint-Malo.
