Perched on the bright green leaves of a Cayenne vanilla plant (Duranta erecta), this Papilio demodocus, also known as the Vinson's Swallowtail or Lemon Swallowtail, displays all the elegance of its livery. Its black wings are streaked with light yellow spots with jagged edges, reminiscent of natural stained-glass patterns. An ornamental blue eye adorns the hindwings, reinforcing its winged jewel-like appearance.

Native to Africa and certain tropical regions of Asia, this butterfly is closely related to the Rutaceae, the citrus family. The caterpillar feeds in particular on the leaves of lemon, orange, and grapefruit trees, earning it the nickname "Lemon Swallowtail."

This moment captured at rest invites us to admire the fusion of brightness and camouflage, and to discover a species that is often discreet despite its luminous hues. A brief but unforgettable stopover in the green calm of the greenhouse.
